FairWater's mission explained ...

There is a drama in Africa going on for the last 15 years.

The water NGOs,  Governements and donors speak about it all the time and still speak about it, in numerous conferences and siminars, but with no results, the tragedy continued.

What happened?

1 out of 3 handpumps is disfunctional !

Why?? Mainly because communities cannot afford the repairs due to the frequent breakdowns of the fragile handpumps that most water projects use in Africa.

In Africa, over 150.000 handpumps (and still counting...) are now rusting away and billions of funding is wasted.

Communities have no other option but to abandon their handpump and go back to traditional water sources, often polluted and far away.

Today, after 20 years of development projects,
 children die every minute
because there is no more safe water
due to handpump breakdowns...

FairWater finally introduced the most logical option; it's in fact a simple no brainer. All studies show that whatever management model is used, if communities just have more durable handpumps that do not need repairs and spare parts all the time, their water supply is easier and cheaper to maintain and becomes sustainable by itself, simply because of the reliability of the service.

Is this possible? Yes, with the FairWater Bluepump, a new, Dutch designed handpump, tested and proven reliablilty in 10 African countries. There is now finally a solution for the persistant handpump maintenance problem, that has caused already so many handpump lives and that of the people, especially children, who depend on safe handpump water.

The FairWater BluePump, UNDP Tanzania Project

The BluePump has a revolutionary simple but effective, maintenance free pumping system, that does not require to change the troubled rubber piston seal all the time, simply because it has no rubber seals in the piston. This makes all the difference in reliablity and pumping efforts. The BluePump therefore pumps more water with less effort, even from 100m deep.

 FairWater's mission is therefore:

- Promote cost-effective and sustainable handpumps

- Replace abandoned handpumps with the durable BluePump

- Assist other water projects to start with the BluePump

- Facilitate WatSan information: http://www.watsan.org/
